Steampunk Rocks Fantasy and Fashion

Michelle Lesniak Franklin won project Runway Season 11 with her more saleable version of Steampunk couture.

In doing so, she shared this fashion cult with the world.

Steampunk embraces a fantasy existence that teeters between the moral purity of the Victorian Era and the dawn of independence during the Industrial Age-both with a hint of Goth thrown in for good measure.

It's replete with leather corsets, mechanical wonders and hints of the Old West.

The hair for Steampunk fashion includes unfettered curls, edgy urban styles and over-the-top, Victorian-esque updos.

Adding just hints of Steampunk couture to outfits allows everyone with an urge to be noticed to pull off these strange and wonderful styles.

The crimped hair gives a modern edge to this Steampunk look, while also hearkening to a time past when women's hair was allowed to be kinky cool. Love the cutaway leather jacket!

While this Steampunk outfit appears to be more of a costume, if you took away the skirt and added jeans, you would have an amazing street style. Here, the hairstyle is impeccably coiffed to make the entire outfit appear more wearable.

Often bordering on Goth, Steampunk makeup can be out there...or not. Love this model's gadgetry that she's using as a headband; the hair looks so unfettered and fabulous!

Cara Pintadas represents the marriage between the moral purity of the Victorian Era and the dawn of independence during the Industrial Age.   The alluring concept of yin-yang is a driving force in the "In All Things" collection.   Whether to convey a sense of innocence or to allay suspicions, the covering of an eye has always been rather symbolic.
