Sustainable Beauty

In an effort to raise funds for The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, Red Bank, NJ-based Salon Concrete-along with hundreds of salons in the Davines network-hosted an in-salon event for Sustainable Beauty Day.

By visiting Salon Concrete on Sustainable Beauty Day, guests experienced a haircut and styling from the talented salon team in exchange for a donation towards The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation-an organization dedicated to planting fruitful trees and plants to alleviate world hunger, combat global warming, strengthen communities and improve the surrounding air, soil, and water.

Raising nearly $1,000, the donations collected through Salon Concrete will specifically fund a fruit tree planting in Brazil in February 2013.

"Our goal as a salon is to use beauty as a tool to encourage sustainability. We make a commitment to use our resources responsibility, which can have an overall positive environmental, economic and social impact," says Christine Zilinski owner of Salon Concrete. "Part of that is working with like-minded organizations like The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation to do good for the community and the world."

Other salons participated in the event. Last year's Sustainable Beauty Day style-and-cut-athon generated more than $25,000 worldwide.
