Ponytails: Riding in Style

A variety of modern ponytails paraded down the catwalks of New York City's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

For a decadent fur and velvet presentation at Ralph Lauren's "From Russia With Love" show, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created sleek yet unpolished ponytails.

A strong, modern update on the pony was also the focus at the Diesel Black Gold. The easy, sexy style truly fit the collection, "Need for Speed."

It showcased tailored, close-cut pieces, which were truly fit for "biker girls." The cool ponytail is an ideal look for women who want to pull off a wet, shiny look, but find it tough to wear that look with their hair down. While pulled back in a pony, the look feels much more controlled.

Finally, Guido created a sexy, glossy low ponytail look for Victoria Beckham's luxurious collection. This style is meant to look very easy, almost accidental with emphasis on the texture.

"I wanted it to look really drenched in shine, not quite totally wet, but almost. I put as much thought into creating a simple look like this as I do with more complicated ones-it's all about the nuances, like texture. This is the kind of glossy texture many designers want to see right now," says Guido. "When they want shine, it's not the super shiny blown-out Red Carpet look, it's more subtle and casual."
