"White House Down" star Maggie Gyllenhaal, also co-staring alongside Michael Fassbender in "Frank," which is scheduled to be released later this year, graces the cover of the Summer 2013 issue of Gotham Magazine. In late June, the luminary attended the magazine's cover star celebration and celebrity stylist Matthew Monzon was on hand to give Gyllenhaal a tousled and textured look that worked perfectly with her pixie cut.
Starting with damp hair, Monzon used approximately a lemon sized-amount of Joico Power Whip Whipped Foam. "We wanted to bring out some of the natural wave and bend in Maggie's natural texture, so I combed through the hair into her own wave pattern," explains Monzon.
Next, he took a diffuser attachment to the hair dryer and started applying heat to dry her locks. At about 80% dry, he started taking random sections of the hair and twisting them with his fingers while keeping the diffuser on the hair to get it completely dry.
The trick: To keep the twisting inconsistent to make it feel more random and not too perfect.
Once the hair was dry, Monzon let it cool for about 10 minutes. To finish, he used Joico Texture Boost Dry Spray Wax to add some additional texture and separation, leaving a soft touchable style to add to the ease of the entire look.
The star's soft and tousled pixie look topped off an effortlessly summer-chic look. She wore a black sleeveless frock with a feathered skirt from the Dries Van Noten Fall 2013 collection. She carried an Alexander McQueen clutch and wore Casadei 'Blade' kitten heels to polish off the look.
