The 1964 movie classic, My Fair Lady, got new legs—long willowy ones—at Sue Wong’s fall 2011 showing for LA Fashion Week, held at her “The Cedars” mansion (imagine a scaled-down version of Hearst Castle and you’re on the right track), that was once owned by silent screen star Norma Talmadge.
Inspired by the Edwardian period (1901-1910), Wong transformed models from guttersnipes to grand duchesses a' la Audrey Hepbu’s classic portrayal of Eliza Doolittle. Wrapped in flowing chiffon and satin gowns that were embellished with fine lace, ostrich feathers, oate beadwork, embroidery and applique´s, models mingled with the crowd during Wong’s champagne brunch presentation, giving lucky attendees a rare, close-up glimpse of the LA-based designer’s most elaborate confections.
By personal invitation from the leading lady of retro-elegance, celebrity and editorial manicurist Melissa Bozant added the finishing touches to Wong’s “fete” accompli with China Glaze Drastic (dark brick red) and China Rouge (rich creamy red). The results: absolutely loverly!
