Sam Villa, founding partner of Sam Villa and Redken Education Artistic Director, announces the addition of two talented stylists.
David Boyd, owner of Utah's chic Absinthe Hair and Grooming Parlour and Rafael Bertelli from Salt Lake City-based Lunatic Fringe Sugarhouse have joined the Sam Villa ArTeam.
Boyd has always had a passion for the men's market and felt it was a broad enough market to warrant his full attention. "Many men don't think they can get a good fade and shave at a salon, yet they don't want to go to a barber that only has 6 to 8 looks. So, I opened a place that combines the best of both-all the amenities and services of a salon executed with the precision skills of top barbers and stylists," says Boyd.
When Bertelli, who originaly hails from Brazil, was in beauty school in the United States, he didn't even know who industry icons Vidal Sassoon, John Paul DeJoria or Sam Villa were, but those were the ones he kept hearing over and over. Upon graduation, he was invited to work as an assistant on a Sam Villa shoot where the lead stylist said the days would be long, but they would be sharing tips and techniques, so getting a hands-on education was a definite. That's when Bertelli became enamored with the Sam Villa brand.
After discovering a severe allergy to color, Bertelli decided to specialize in cutting and finishing. For such a young stylist, he has a natural ability and an innate sense of seeing the beauty in everything. He can take the basic fundamentals, add a dose of creativity and create something truly compelling.
