Eh? Whether clients are street-smart of corporate savvy, they're equally susceptible to becoming "tonal-deaf" during the summer months when filling, glazing and refreshing hues often fail to create long-lasting results.

If you do color services, you've already seen too many sun-happy clients appear at your doorstep with their sizzling copper of rich vanilla hues morphed to matte brass. While you can't tell your offenders... make that clients... to stop having so much fun, you can embrace a different approach to keeping their dimensional colorings rich, even when they're playing "island babe" on Maui or St. Croix.

Human hair extensions resist damage and fading, and will remain looking lush and vibrant and vibrant throughout the warm-weather season, as long as clients follow simple summer instructions, which aren't that much different than those that must be adhered to at any time of year. The lovely vanilla blonde highlight that you applied a month ago will remain true to tone, as will your delicate strawberry, pale golden and platinum hues.

"To create more natural-looking dimensional effects, I always use at least three shades of extensions," notes Gricelda Smith, dedicated extensionist and owner of Gricelda's Hair Studio in Pensacola, Florida, one of the top color-fade cities in the U.S.

"For an ultra-natural effect, add warm highlights and lowlights to a fiery copper base, or apply a mix of beige, warm and natural blonde hues to levels 8 and 9. In all cases, always respect the lightness and darkness of the existing color to create the most believable design."
