CLAIRE DAWSON, HOB SALONS
Don’t think that classics are boring, purely because you need your classic training in everyday life but your approach to the hair cut could be different. For example don’t always start the same way, try and think outside the box to give a fresh new twist to a more timeless style. If you go to a good stylist, he will allways focus on suitability, good execution and keeping it fashion-able, creating a hairstyle that is manageable. Textured cuts tend to be the easiest to maintain as these are meant to be worked to suit the natural texture of the hair and therefore require little effort and styling time. If a good cut has been cre-ated, regular 6–8 week cuts should be more than enough to ensure it continues to look good in between salon appoint-ments.Remember all styles for the of-fice can always be transformed for evening glam. A top trend this season is the more undone looks so opt for low-slung pony-tails for day and switch to evening glitz by coiling it up high on the crown for a disheveled top knot style. Big for 2010 is the accessory from hair bands to bows and sequined patchwork, all giving an edgy style. For longer lengths — the plait is the number one look. Ultra loose and very relaxed; this look should be kept unstructured and messier. For short styles, keep it smooth and groomed for work, teaming your look with an Alice band, whilst for night add some texture with a putty to give a funkier feel.Wella’s High Hair Pure Glamour is ideal for a sleek and polished finish, whilst Sebastian’s Zero Gravity is ideal for giving per-fect hold.

I think the bob is best haircut for office style. A bob is always classic, but at the same time, it’s also a strong edgy look. and also playful and versatile, so you can play around with it. For me, the bob is the most versatile. I love the bob. It will always be in style. A graduated bob with a nice fringe or without a fringe looks great, depends on the line. Incorporate color for an edgy look.If you prefer crazy colors, of course, that’s hard to do when you have to look professional, so I go underneath the panels to create a contrast. So a nice charcoal with a blue or red tint underneath, so you won’t see it in the office, but if you switch the part later that night, you can see the color. It depends on how you play the highlights.Hair looks great after treatments. It takes five minutes. If you have frizzy hair, you can get a nice shine with Oleo Relax, just a few drops on wet hair before you style it will help give you the shiny and smooth look. For very curly hair, you can do a bob and it gives you a trendy look. If you have the right prod-ucts, if they’re cream-based, not gel or mousse based, the cream base keeps the curls moist and keeps them all day.I recommend KerastaseOleo Curl the cream.

If we want to go away from boring classics at work we can embrace more texture in most styles. For example: Wear your natural curl or add waves to your “bob” hair cut. If you wear your hair up go for the undone french twist. Try the loose bun at the top of your head rather than the old fashion librarian’s bun at the nape of your neck. Those with very long hair can try a loose long fishtail braid instead of a French braid. For evening try putting medium or long hair in any type of braid, cornrow, or plait while the hair is damp or dry. Add mousse to the braid, and pin the braid into a bun if you’d like. This will “set” the hair in place. Undo the braid and wear the hair in waves as an easy transformation for your night out on the town. I am a huge fan of the pixie cut. It’s great for a “wash and go” look and works for all hair textures. Long layered cuts are easier to maintain for those with fine and normal hair. Long layers lend themselves to being clipped to the side with an accessory, put in a loose updo.In 2010 almost anything goes from long flowing locks to heavy fringes to bobs to close cut crops. For formal white tie events I prefer a undone pin up look. If the lady must wear her hair down a 1940’s deep set wave is a great way to go. Ladies with short hair can opt for sleek look including a deep side part or hair directed away from the face in wave pattern.I recommend a mousse that gives great hold and sets without flaking like Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam. I also like RetroHair finish-ing spray.

A good stylist can provide a variety of cuts suitable for every situation. Soft color contrasts are wearable day and night with simple and easy adjustments, like moving the part or adding curls for more evening drama. Our times demand attractive, soft looks and healthy, shiny hair. This means hairdressers must advise clients about how to maintain their hair cut as well as their color. You can’t just say that short hair is the ideal cut for everybody. It all depends on your hair texture, facial shape and the time alloted for styling. If there is any color, you have to return to the salon frequently to avoid undesirable roots or showing gray hair. This is an important part of maintaining your image. All in all, many kinds of styles are suitable for the office as long as you take care of the hair — whether it’s short or long. Finishing products will keep the look sharp. For short styles, I suggest CHI Pliable Polish, CHI Infra Texture. Me-dium length styles could be soft curls, straight and flat-ironed, or even natural curls provided you use the right styling product. I also recommend CHI Infusione, CHI Magnified Volume or Biosilk Glazing Gel.
