Queen of Pop

Spunky hair artiste, Janine Jarman, is making waves for Sebastian, her salon and pro-beauty artists at-large.

Janine Jarman may be 4’ 10” tall in her stocking feet, but don’t ever count her out when it comes to tackling anything that she puts her mind to. She’s been everyone’s beauty sweetheart after she practically threw mud balls at one irritating competitor on Shear Genius 3; has run a successful, high-camp salon in Hollywood since she was 24; bends more hair than three stylists put together; and has the coolest, off-beat celebrity clientele.

Jarman’s dish of the day: “Do you know that race car driver Danica Patrick is only a couple of inches taller than me and she drives her Ferrari wearing high heels? She really loves beauty; she’s a girly-girl at heart.” Really?

Jarman, who’s also the West Coast Spokesperson for Sebastian Professional, suddenly became a salon owner after her boss received a one-way ticket to the hoosegow…um, make that the slammer. “I quickly scraped together every penny that I could get my hands on and reopened the salon as Hairroin,’’ she beams. “It’s beena great ride ever since.”

Jarman can whip out a classic updo faster than many stylists can say “Pass the hairspray,” but it’s her penchants for pop art and retro-culture that truly define her signature style.

Whether she’s using a vintage Lucille Ball and Hello Kitty motif as a backdrop, or spoofing Marie Antoinette, Jarman deftly fuses her unique sense beauty with often quirky compositions to depict strong women dripping with raw sexiness (think Rosie the Riveter meets Marilyn Monroe) and tongue-in-cheek cultural renditions of eras gone-by.

“Hairroin is where I get most of my inspirations for photo shoots,” Jarman grins. “The space feels so creative and my staff rocks! We’ve worked side-by-side for a long time and collaborate on collections every year. We’re always looking for things that are offbeat or, in some way, over-the-top crazy.”
