Pravana Show Us Your Vivids Contest: Winner Announced

Skye Bryand of Absolut Hair nabs first place for her unique and vibrant color combination

"Skye's Circular Distortion was breathtaking. Her color combination was unique and well executed. The Vivids Skye chose were a unexpected combination that perfectly punctuated the style. I love what she did!" - Bri

Pravana hosted its 2011 Show Us Your Vivids contest, which aimed to scout out innovative haircolor created while using the ChromaSilk Vivids product. Brig Van Osten, winner of Bravo's hit show "Shear Genius," judged the color competition, which was open to licensed industry professionals. The Show Us Your Vivids contest drew more than 100 applicants who competed to win a golden opportunity to fly to New York City to go on location at an editorial photo shoot. Images from the shoot will be published in a salon industry trade.

Skye Bryand of Absolut Hair in Everett, Wash. nabbed first place for her "Circular Distortion" look, which flaunted vibrant shades of blue, violet, magenta and yellow. Bryand's approach began with dividing hair into 1 to 2 inch sections, starting with a full circle, and then building and working to half-moon shapes while moving away from the hairline.

"I was really inspired by the geometrics of feathers, specifically the way peacock feathers form into an 'eye' like formation. I used the circular idea to create a bold, but blended feel," says Skye Bryand. "Placing circles on a curved surface creates fluidity showing no lines and making the colors appear as if they are melting over one another."

William Edwards of Urban Hair Lounge in Rocklin, Calif was awarded second place for his dramatic, over-the-eye look that is titled "Urban Chic." It showcased vibrant shades of purple with a dash of blue, magenta and silver. The third place title was shared and was a tie between Jennifer Bartlett of A Chroma Salon in Grand Rapids, Mich. and Tricia Pain of Asbury Park, N.J.'s Salon Chop Chop Bang Bang. While Bartlett was recognized for her bold asymmetrical "Rockabilly Blues" look, Pain nabbed the third place title for "Vivid Cheetah," a wild look that features a mohawk-like spike surrounded by colorful cheetah print spots.
