Q. What experiences have most impacted your career and why?
A. The training I received at Harold Leighton in London and the drive that it created within me to move forward and not be stagnant. I have to give credit to the senior staff there. We worked like dogs and played hard, and the training was unbelievable! They took us through every element of doing hair before we even picked up a pair of scissors.

Q. What's your signature style?
A. I don't have one, but I try to avoid dating my work. I like timeless looks.

Q. How do you translate a woman's energy and vibe?
A. Translating a woman's energy is a lot more important than translating her fashion sense. When a women walks in, you have to assess her very quickly. You can tell a lot by the way she dresses and the way she carries herself. You really have to "know" women and how much you can push the boundaries.

Q. What's your take on fashion trends and translating them from behind the chair?
A. If something looks good on a woman, it simply looks good. I don't necessarily call it a "trend." You have to be aware of what's happening on the runways-the clothing and shoes-and then translate.

Q. What energizes you most when art directing shoots?
A. Coming up with the concept, planning and prep work. I don't just let things happen. It is planned and very organized.

Q. Which creative geniuses do you admire most and why?
A. Paolo Roversi, Steven Klein, Brassai, Irving Penn, Bruno Dayan, Sara Silver, David Bailey, Sara Moon, Steven Meisel and Cartier Bresson. When somebody is really good, their work doesn't date.

Q. If you weren't styling hair, what creative work would you do?
A. I would learn how to draw properly.

Q. Share some of your secrets to success.
A. I'm not shy about paying compliments to other people in my craft and that translates to what makes me "me." I also have very strong views, but I don't shut the door on other people's opinions. I encourage them.

Q. What's your personal mantra?
A. Unless you have a really good foundation for everything, you don't have anything.

Q. What's your opinion on awards?
A. I do my work for me and not for others to judge me. I don't enter competitions however I do judge a lot.
